If you don't know who Jasmine Chiswell is, she's a TikTok creator who dresses like Marilyn Monroe, "lives in Marilyn's house", and claims to maybe be in contact with the ghost of Marilyn.
Lately, Reddit has been abuzz with some questions, primarily around whether or not Jasmine actually owns this house. The house in question is a 7 bedroom home at 2393 Castilian Drive in Los Angeles that, allegedly, has some kind of connection to Marilyn Monroe. Some claim she owned it, some say it was her honeymoon home with Joe DiMaggio, whatever.
But does Jasmine Chiswell own this home?
Short answer: yes but no and no.Image via MLS |
For one thing, Marilyn never owned this home; she rented it for a few months in 1952. Some people have said it's her "honeymoon home" that she shared with Joe DiMaggio, but they were married two years after Marilyn's brief stay in this house.
As for if Jasmine actually owns the house, well....kinda, but not really? Reddit user @jasminechiswellsucks did some digging and says the home is owned by an investment company, which is owned my Jasmine's father-in-law.
I'd always wondered how Jasmine and hubby Maverick could afford to buy a $2.7M house in the Hollywood Hills. TURNS OUT THEY DIDN'T BUY IT AFTER ALL!
A quick lookup of public records (which anyone can do if they know where to look and what to look for) shows that the property located at 2393 Castilian Drive in LA is in fact NOT OWNED BY Maverick McNeilly and/or Jasmine Chiswell. It was purchased in 2019 by a company called Blackcat Investments, Inc. And guess who the CEO of Blackcat is? None other than Michael McNeilly...Maverick's daddy. Blackcat Investments is listed on the deed as the owner. - @jasminechiswellsucks via Reddit
I don't follow Jasmine Chiswell, so I haven't seen much of her talking about her home. But many users on Reddit say that she's claimed to own the home. They could be right, I honestly don't know for certain, She comes up on my FYP from time to time, but I'm not an avid follower so I don't know what Jasmine's claiming on the daily. But I did watch some videos and interviews of her where she talks about the home, and she never outright says anything about the home's ownership. She skirt around it and just that she lives there. In an interview where the host asked how she got the home, she just talks about going to the house's open house and "it kinda just went from there".
I'm sure there's some kind of tax benefit to be gained from buying a house with a corporation and then "renting" it to your son and daughter-in-law. I don't know, ask your accountants (the real and licensed CPA kinds).
It kind of doesn't really matter how Jasmine talks about the home's ownership because she's kinda right either way. If she says she owns it, well it is in the family that she's married into. If she says she doesn't, it's technically in the name of her FIL via a corporation.
There seems to be a growing clash between people who love and people who can't stand Jasmine Chiswell. There's a whole subreddit dedicated to talking badly about her and a common complaint is that her fans are hostile, mean, and cult-like.
Another TikTok creator, tinaimelsartandfinery, who is also a Marilyn Monroe impersonator, put out a video where she addressed some issues, specifically about the exaggerated connection to Jasmine's home that Jasmine herself perpetuates about Marilyn Monroe. Apparently, that video was ravaged by Jasmine-stans and she lost something like 8,000 followers. I watched the video (posted below) and there didn't seem to be anything unreasonable being said.
All in all, a few valid criticism I will say against Jasmine- assuming all this is true- is that she exaggerates and tells half-truths for attention on the Internet (but what influencer isn't), and that she needs to address her fans bullying other people but doesn't. Also, she named her baby "Midnight" and is impersonating a dead film star 24/7 (weird).
