Hailey Peters, aka HappyHealthyHailey on TikTok, was caught on a livestream disciplining her 10-month old son and people are upset.
During a live broadcast (video here), where Hailey was discussing fitness and exercise, her son appeared to be misbehaving out of frame. Eventually, Hailey put the phone she was using to record herself down, then went off screen to apparently smack her 10-month old son, and then roughly pick him up and put him down.
Now, people were pretty upset and angry the first day or two after this happened. But, afterwards, some people were saying that the backlash seemed disproportionate and it "really wasn't that bad".
As a singular incident, yeah, it didn't look that bad. However, if Hailey feels comfortable doing that on a live stream, it makes me wonder what her off-camera behaviour is like. Because she was quite angry and aggressive still, even though some people felt that the smack wasn't that bad. So if she's okay to do that when people are watching, what is she like when the camera is off?
Also, small aside, but the fact that she has "wife" and "pug mom" in her TikTok bio, yet no mention of being an actual mom: kinda odd.
I gather she probably doesn't like being a mom. Which I say is not necessarily the worst thing. You still 110% have the duty to be a great parent, care for your kid, and raise your child to believe that it is loved. However, no one knows what it's really like to be a parent until the baby drops so I don't really begrudge people if they decide that they actually don't like being a parent. Undoubtably, there are a lot of people who have kids and then think "Shit, this really isn't for me". Yeah, we all know it's a big job before, but nothing like actually going through it to make you really understand and appreciate how big an undertaking it really is.
Hailey might love her son but my feeling is that she does not love bing a mom and finds being a parent exhausting. Further confirmed by someone on Reddit who pointed out that she travels a lot but doesn't seem to bring the kid with her. That being said, the kid is here and in her life, so she has a responsibility to be a good parent and, yes, even bring the kid with her when she travels- especially since it's so young. Leaving a kid with their dad while you enjoy a weekend in Miami is one thing, but an extended period of travelling through Italy is another.
Hailey has not addressed the incident and the ensuing backlash, but has turned comments off on all her videos. Also, apparently, a number of her sponsors have dropped her as well.
She seems like the kind of person who would blame all this on "cancel culture" and "liberals" lmao
